Bollywood actor Bobby Deol, who will be seen in a villainous role in his upcoming film Love Hostel, said he was looking for characters that are unusual and impressive. The crime thriller, written and directed by Shanker Raman, who directed the acclaimed lead role of Pankaj Tripathi Gurgaon, takes place against the backdrop of rustic northern India and follows the unstable journey of a young couple (Vikrant Massey and Sanya Malhotra) who is persecuted by a ruthless mercenary (Deol).
Referring to the example of his recent trips, such as Class of 83 and his upcoming Love Hostel, Deol said that the attempt is to break his image on the screen and look for different roles. He also said he was not limited to playing the lead role. “When I was doing Class of 83, I wasn’t the main character, I was one of the characters that’s important to the story. Ditto with Love Hostel, I play a character in it, I’m not the main character. I enjoy making these characters because they are very impressive, “said Deol, known from films such as Gupt, Soldier, Ajnabee, Humraaz, in an interview with PTI.
“I try to break my image and try to play different roles. The audience has changed so much that it is ready to accept actors with different avatars, characters. I’m glad I got the opportunity to play this role, “he said.
The 53-year-old actor said he wanted to play strong and demanding characters that people would not have imagined, such as the Aashram web series, in which he was seen as a self-proclaimed divine man.
“I want to play characters that excel, whether in a movie or in a web series, no matter how long the character is, how much people enjoy them after watching the project and how the character stays in their minds,” he said. .
“Even with the cinema and working on the film, I want to look for characters that are interesting, essential and not just light-hearted,” he added. Deol pointed out that not only does OTT get the opportunity to play a diverse role.
In commercial films, there are characters who, in addition to the stars, also excel, the actor remarked, adding: “This (cinema) is not just about heroism. The stars will be there and if you are part of a project where they are and you have a great character that you can play, they will also notice you. “
In a Love Hostel supported by Shah Rukh Khan, Deol will be seen as Dagar, whom he says is a ruthless man. “Dagar’s character is someone who has lived through so much in his life and what he is because of what has happened, and that is why he is so cold and ruthless,” he said.
It’s hard to play such characters, Deol said, remembering how uncomfortable he would be after writing the role of Baba Niral in Aashram, but he learned the art of turning on and off between his roles.
“I’ve never played a negative role in such depth (referring to Love Hostel). When I did Aashram, I felt a little uncomfortable why I had to express these emotions. I went back to the hotel to the same actors I was bad with in the scenes. and rude.
“Eventually, I learned how to turn on and off. There are people who can’t do it. I have a beautiful family, a strong upbringing. When I come home, talk to my family and feel relaxed, nothing drives me crazy. ”
He said it is always challenging to play roles that are negative or have shades of gray because they are completely different from their true personalities. “It’s always hard to see how best I can make this character unique,” Deol added.
In addition to Love Hostel, this actor will be seen in the third season of Aashram creator Prakash Jha and two films called Animal, starring Anil Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra and Apne 2 with his father Dharmendra and brother Sunny Deol.
Speaking of Apne 2, the actor said it was always his dream to do as much work as possible with his family.
“Being with them is something I appreciate and even our fans appreciate it.” I’m looking forward to Apne 2 and waiting for the script to be prepared. The producers will announce it, “he said, adding that the filming of Animal will begin at the end of this year.
Love Hostel will make its debut on the ZEE5 streaming service on February 25.
