When Acharya was originally announced, actress Kajal Aggarwal was invited to play the lead role alongside Chiranjeeva. She was even seen in the lyric superhit video of Laahe Laahe. But when the film’s trailer was unveiled, Kajal was conspicuous by his absence. Among the speculations as to why she was missing from the film, director Koratala Siva has now said that the character was excluded from the film because it did not match her status.
In an interview with ABN Entertainment, Koratala Siva said: “There will be heroine, love and love interests in the commercial aspects of every film. But for a character like Acharya, there should be no love story and there will not be. Initially, the role of Kajal was designed as a funny character in Dharmasthali. But after 3 to 4 days of filming, doubts arose about the (purpose) of her role. I was skeptical. She is a great heroine; its presence should be justified. There are no love tracks, no songs and her role will not be properly closed. So, with all these limitations, keeping this role with Kajal in the movie will be bad. It didn’t justify her figure. I explained the same thing to her, and she understood my concerns. “
Niranjan Reddy and Anvesh Reddy of Matinee Entertainments funded the project with Chiranjeevi in the title role. Ram Charan, Pooja Hegde and Sonu Sood also play other key roles in the film.
Acharya is set to hit theaters on April 29.
