New Oscar winner and Tony Award nominee Ariana DeBose will host this year’s Tony Awards. The West Side Story star will give a presentation on June 12 at New York City’s famous Radio City Music Hall live on CBS and Paramount + from 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT. The hourly preview will be streamed on Paramount +.
“After the last two years, there’s no one better to gather the theater community on this important night in honor of the best of Broadway and share the joy of performing live again than this extraordinarily talented artist,” said Jack Sussman, executive. president of specials, music, live events and alternative programming at CBS.
DeBose is a theatrical veteran with roles in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, Hamilton, A Bronx Tale, Pippin, Motown the Musical, Bring It On: The Musical and Company.
The ceremony will take place nine months after the Moulin Rouge! The musical won the best new music crown at the last Tony Awards, one postponed due to a pandemic. The show also expanded from its typical three hours to four, with presenter Audra McDonald handing out Tony for the first two hours and Leslie Odom Jr. moderated the “Broadway’s Back!” celebration for the second half with performances from three top musicals.
