R Madhavan makes his directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. In the video, Madhavan revealed that he had to remake his entire screenplay after speaking on the subject of his film, Nambi Narayanan. He said that after working on the script for seven months, he showed the script to Narayanan for final approval because it was part of their contract. While Narayanan was amazed at the actor’s and director’s attention to detail, there was much more to his story than Madhavan found.
During their interview, Narayanan revealed that he was the first Indian scientist to go to Ivy League University (Princeton). Madhavan also learned about Narayanan’s working relationship with APJ Dr. Abdul Kalam and his friendship with Vikram Sarabhai. The actor-director said that after this interview, he saw his “script torn to pieces” and it took him “another year and a half to put the whole script back together.”
In the video, Madhavan also talked about the moment when he decided to make a film about Nambi Narayanan. The actor remembered watching an experienced scientist and saw a “man who had been wronged.”
“I saw deep inside a wounded man who was overwhelmed by the lack of recognition and accusation that struck him and his family. There were embarrassments and tears in his eyes, but deep in his expression was the core of absolute truth, “said Madhavan. He added, “I said to myself, this is the story I had to tell.”
