Shikhar Dhawan will lead India in the upcoming ODI series against West Indies while Ravindra Jadeja will be his deputy. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant were rested for the series.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the squad for the ODI series scheduled to begin on July 22, 2022 in Port of Spain.
Dhawan led India against Sri Lanka in away matches. The men in blue secured a win in the three-match ODI series but suffered a defeat in the T20Is. Jadeja, who was appointed as the vice-captain of the team, last played an ODI for India in 2020 against Australia, while Shubman Gill was also called up. The right-handed batsman played three ODIs in Indian colors and managed to score only 49 runs.
Besides, Deepak Hooda, who played two ODIs earlier this year, was rewarded for his exceptional batting display in the T20I series against Ireland where the right-handed batsman scored a ton. Hooda has scored 55 runs in the two ODIs he has played for India so far.
The second and third ODIs will be played on 24 July 2022 and 27 July 2022. The ODI series will be followed by five T20Is.
