Actor Kangana Ranaut reacted quite scathingly to this negativity and calls for boycotts surrounding Aamir Khan’s upcoming film, Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. Taking to Instagram, Kangana shared a post accusing Aamir of “fabricating” the hate around his film, saying that none of the big-budget films worked this year and praising the South for their global hits.
Kangana wrote, “I think all the negativity surrounding the upcoming release of Laal Singh Chaddha has been skillfully prepared by mastermind Aamir Khan himself, no Hindi films have worked this year except for one comedy sequel. Only films from the South deeply rooted in Indian culture or with a local flavor worked, a Hollywood remake wouldn’t work anyway.”
Kangana also referred to Aamir’s words in 2015 where expressed his dismay at the state of affairs in the country and that his wife Kiran Rao mentioned moving out of India. Her post continued, “But now they will call India intolerant. Hindi films need to understand the pulse of the audience, it is not Hinduism or Muslim. Even after Aamir Khan made a Hinduphobic PK or called India intolerant, he gave one of the biggest hits of his life. Please stop making this about religion or ideology, it detracts from their bad acting and bad movies.”
At a recent press conference, Aamir Khan reacted to the negativity surrounding his film and said that he was quite sorry. “I am sad because many people who say this in their hearts believe that I am someone who does not like India. They believe it in their hearts, but it is not true,” he said. He added: “I really love this country. So I have it. It is rather unfortunate if some people feel that way. I want to assure everyone that this is not the case, so please don’t boycott my movies. Please watch my movies.”
Directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha also stars Kareena Kapoor and Naga Chaitanya and will release on August 11.
