Producer Red Chillies Entertainment announced on Wednesday that Alia Bhatt starrer “Darlings” will be remade in Tamil and Telugu. Directed by debutant Jasmeet K Reen, the dark comedy has been receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences since its release on Netflix last week.
Gaurav Verma, producer and COO, Red Chillies Entertainment said that the story of “Darlings” deserves to be made in multiple languages.
“We had the script for ‘Darlings’ with us for some time and during the journey to shoot it, we decided to shoot it in multiple languages. The film has a certain landscape that can be adapted very well in multiple languages. The process is on as we speak ,” Verma said in a statement.
Set in Mumbai, the film explores the lives of a mother-daughter duo (played by Shefali Shah and Bhatt) as they struggle to find their place in the city, find courage and love in extraordinary circumstances, and fight against all odds.

Verma said that while they will keep the basic storyline the same, the story will be localized as needed.
The remake will also mark Red Chillies Entertainment’s foray into the Tamil and Telugu markets as a separate banner.
“Going into the Tamil and Telugu markets is not something that we will consolidate or have offices there, but it will be on a script-by-script basis. ‘Darlings’ has potential, so we are taking it there,” “Darlings” is also being produced by Bhatt under her Eternal Sunshine banner Productions.
