The most awaited Hindi movie of the year, brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, released this Friday and it looks like the hype built around the film has paid off. According to reports, the film had a strong start at the box office.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the film minted Rs. 36.50 to 38.50 crores domestically on its opening day, making it the biggest non-holiday release. Business website BoxOfficeIndia.com reported that Brahmastra will collect around Rs 35-36 crore in India.
Producer Karan Johar shared on his Instagram that the film grossed Rs 75 crore worldwide on its opening day. He shared, “Humbled.. Grateful.. but still can’t control his excitement! ❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Much is riding on the Brahmastra at the moment as 2022 has been a dismal year for Bollywood at the box office. Apart from a few films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, The Kashmir Files, no other film has set the box office ringing.
The film was made on a budget of 410 million rupees, making it the most expensive film in Hindi cinema. Earlier this record was held by YRF’s Thugs of Hindostan which was around Rs 310 crore.
However, the reviews of the film are not very impressive. Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express gave the film 1.5 stars and wrote in her review, “This is how the promise of this much-anticipated Dharma production has been fulfilled.” Never-before-seen special effects. This statement cannot be disputed. I can only think of SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’ that can be compared. One of Bollywood’s hottest couples, on and off screen, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Ended with the surprise presence of Shah Rukh Khan and the one and only Amitabh Bachchan and uplifted in the middle by the lovable Nagarjuna. Can there be anything better? It turns out that it could and should, but it isn’t.”
