A 21-year-old petite model was duped of more than Rs 10 crore by two men posing as producers on the pretext of casting her in two films with a “big star”, a Mumbai police official said on Saturday. A first information report (FIR) has been registered at the Dahisar police station against two accused, Piyush Jain and Manthan Ruparele, based on a complaint filed by a woman.
The complainant is doing modeling assignments. She was looking for a role in Bollywood films, the official said.
Jain and Ruparele identified themselves as the owners of a film production company and told the complainant that they were making two films named ‘RC-15’ and ‘Prisoner’. They told her that she would be cast as the daughter of a South Indian megastar.
“The duo called the woman several times in July and offered her a ‘role’ in films. They convinced her to transfer Rs 10,31,000 to bank accounts under the guise of film document preparation fees and other charges. He sent her fake documents related to the films,” the official said .
When the accused duo stopped receiving the woman’s calls, she approached the police on Friday and lodged a complaint.
A case related to cheating and forgery has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, he said, adding that no arrests have been made so far.
