A suit against Prabhas’s Adipurus filed in a Delhi court for inaccurate depiction of Hindu gods
A case against Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Adipurush’ has been disposed of in Delhi’s Tiz Hazari court. The makers of the film are facing a legal battle for allegedly inaccurately portraying Hindu gods. After the Dussehra promo was released, it hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community by depicting Hindu gods in an “unauthorized” and “inaccurate” manner. The matter came up for hearing before Senior Civil Judge Abhishek Kumar on Monday.
The suit was filed on Friday by advocate Raj Gaurav, who is seeking a permanent and mandatory injunction against the defendants – producer Bhushan Kumar and director and co-producer Om Raut, alleging that they tampered with the foundations of the epic Ramayana. The suit has been moved to court, which demands the film’s release be suspended and the allegedly objectionable parts of the trailer removed from all social media platforms, including YouTube and Facebook.

According to TOI, the plea stated, “The defendants have hurt the religious, cultural, historical and civilizational sentiments of the plaintiff and other Hindus by portraying the Hindu Gods Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman in a highly unauthorized and inaccurate manner in the trailer or promotional video of their upcoming film Adipurush.” While the traditional image of Lord Ram was that of a calm and peaceful person who believed in forgiveness, the defendants in the promotional video showed him as “cruel, vengeful and angry” in leather clothing. strap and modern shoes made of leather”.
The plea further alleged that Lord Hanuman was depicted in an “appalling manner”, wearing leather thongs all over his body and his appearance contradicted the description in the religious verse of the Hanuman Chalisa. Also, the character of Ravan, the faithful Brahman, was “horribly cheap and appalling”, while the vanar sena was portrayed as “chimpanzee screeching”. The plea also read, “This prima facie trailer or promotion of the film is so cruel, evil and diabolical that it should be outright banned along with the respective film scheduled to release on January 12, 2023 in its present form in the interest of religious sentiments, sentiments and aspirations of Hindus in India and elsewhere’.
The court was therefore able to grant a stay on the release of the film and was looking for ways to remove the promotion from all social media platforms.
