With more customers flocking to online streaming channels, Amazon has launched Prime Video Mobile Edition to make streaming more affordable and accessible. It has announced a single-user subscription plan for ₹599 per year that will only work on mobile devices. This initiative makes it easy to access a variety of content, from movies to matches, anywhere, anytime.
The mobile-only Prime video plan was introduced last year in partnership with Bharti Airtel, but was only accessible to its telecom users. This time
Users will have access to existing Prime Video features like X-ray using IMDb, downloads for offline viewing, Indian and international movies, Amazon Originals, LIVE cricket and more. Users can thus comfortably browse and watch different types of content from the comfort of their mobile phone.
Android users can simply sign up for a plan through the Prime Video app or purchase an annual plan at ‘primevideo.com’.
Vice President of Prime Video India, Gaurav Gandhi said, “Over the past 6 years, we have seen tremendous growth for Prime Video in India. With viewers from 99% of PINs in the country, the service has become the preferred destination for premium content. Driven by our mission to make high-quality entertainment even more accessible across the country, we’re excited to launch the annual Prime Video Mobile Edition plan. This world-first innovation saw an incredible response from Indian consumers when we launched it through the Telecom Association last year, and building on that success, we’re expanding its reach and now making it available direct to subscription through the Prime Video app and website. ”
Commenting on the launch, Kelly Day, Vice President International Prime Video, said: “India is one of our fastest growing and most active locations globally. Our success in the country can be attributed to innovations that are focused on creating an exceptional entertainment experience for customers. In fact, India is turning into a hub of innovation for Prime Video. An initiative like Prime Video Mobile Edition, which had its origins in India, is now being developed in many countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia. We are confident that the new Prime Video Mobile Edition annual plan will further help accelerate the growth of our business in India and provide an even larger customer base with access to the service’s high-quality content. With this launch, we look forward to entertaining every Indian with our popular on-demand entertainment content and live sports.”
Prime Video Mobile Edition is the latest addition to OTT platforms offering mobile-only plans. And it is definitely a step forward in making online streaming in multiple languages more accessible to Indian consumers.
