Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Ameya Khopkar on Friday threatened that his party will not allow the release of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in India.
“There are plans to release Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s Pakistani film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in India. It is most infuriating that this plan is being spearheaded by an Indian company. On the orders of the Raj Saheb, we will not allow this film to be screened anywhere in India,” he tweeted.
Khopkar, who is also a film producer, called Fawad Khan’s fans “traitors” in his tweet.
“Favad Khan fans traitors can very well go to Pakistan and watch the movie,” Khopkar said in another tweet.
The Legend of Maula Jatt is one of the most expensive films in the history of Pakistani cinema. It is a remake of Pakistani classic film Maula Jatt starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan.
The main theme of the film is the legendary rivalry between Noori Natt played by Hamza Ali Abbasi, the brutal leader of the gang, and the local hero Maula Jatta. The story has been reworked for a global audience by Lashari, whose debut film ‘Waar’ (2013) broke box office records in Pakistan.
“The Legend of Maula Jatt” is produced by Lashari Films and Ammara Hikmat’s Encyclopedia. Renowned cinematographer and distribution strategist Nadeem Mandvivalla will distribute the film in Pakistan through his company Mandviwalla Entertainment.
