RRR HURTS RAJINIKANTH’S MUTHA
For the uninitiated, SS Rajamouli’s RRR overtook Rajinikanth’s Muthu, which held the record as the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan for two decades. The film was released on 209 screens and 31 Imax screens in 44 cities in Japan.

Meanwhile, Muthu, which was released 24 years ago and till now, has been the highest grossing Indian film of all time in Japan with an impressive collection of 400 million JPY. The news of RRR Muthu crossing over to claim the top spot was broken by Tollywood.net.
RRR AND ACADEMY AWARDS
The creators of RRR are preparing for the Oscars. While RRR is not India’s official entry at this year’s Oscars, it was presented to the jury independently. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli recently won the Best Director award for RRR at the New York Film Critics Circle.
Beating out Steven Spielberg, Darron Aronofsky, Sarah Polley and Gina Prince-Blythewood on the global stage, RRR is one of the first groups of critics to hit the awards season.
Actor RRR Ram Charan, who played the lead role in the film alongside Jr NTR, also congratulated SS Rajamouli for his big win at the New York Film Critics Circle Award. Calling it ‘deserved’, he tweeted, “CONGRATULATIONS!!! @ssrajamouli Garu 🙏🏼 on winning the prestigious New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Director! Well deserved.. Thank you for taking Indian cinema to a global level.”
