State-owned CIL on Monday said Mukesh Choudhary has taken over as its chief marketing officer. He assumed charge on December 23, Coal India Ltd (CIL) said in a statement.
Before that, he was the Deputy Director General of the Department of Defense Production of the Ministry of Defence.
Choudhary took over from B Veera Reddy, Director (Technical) of CIL, who was additionally holding the post of Director (Marketing) since May this year.
A 1996 batch Indian Ordinance Factory Services (IOFS) Divisional Officer, Choudhary is a Mechanical Engineering (Honours) graduate. He also holds a Master of Financial Analysis (MFA) and an MBA.
Choudhary is well-versed in the finer points of the country’s coal demand supply chain and CIL’s marketing system on the back of his six-and-a-half-year stint as Director of Coal Production and Shipping in the Ministry of Coal.
His functions in the ministry included tracking coal supplies, transport logistics and marketing policy.
He has also served on the boards of six government owned coal companies namely MCL, SECL, NLTPL, NCL, SCCL and CMDPI.
At a time when CIL’s coal stocks have reached record high levels, especially in the coal-intensive power sector, and demand for coal is expected to rise sharply due to increased power generation in the country, Choudhary’s experience will help address the marketing challenge. problems.
CIL accounts for more than 80 percent of domestic coal production.
