Netflix also came up with Smriti Mundhra’s
Indian matchmaking with Sima Taparia and the BBC
What love! with Karan Johar. Both of these shows found their way to memes, more than to the hearts of viewers. Netflix was third time lucky after a show about four wives in the Bollywood circle, who are friends with Karan Johar, along with Shah Rukh Khan’s wife and entrepreneur Gauri Khan – found success.
The show focuses on the lives of jewelery designer Maheep Kapoor (wife of actor Sanjay Kapoor); actor Neelam Kothari (wife of actor Samir Soni); businessman Bhavana Pandey (wife of actor Chunky Panday); and fashion designer Seema Sajdeh (former wife of actor Sohail Khan).
2nd season
The fairytale lives of Bollywood wives was included in

Wonderful lives. Seema Sajdeh was one of the many celebrities (almost every episode had one) who appeared on the show. It is also important to mention that Malaika Arora was also part of it
The fairytale lives of Bollywood wives – and her show moved the handle forward.

Unreal life of real housewives
This pattern of celebrity life was tried and tested long ago on the 2012 show
The Khan Sisters on the banner of the lives of actors and sisters Gauhar and Nigar Khan. Released long before the era of OTT and connected TVs, the show failed to strike a chord with the audience and drowned in the vast jungle that is the Indian television universe.
But this time, a Kardarshian-like show is taking off on the right platform with the Indian audience. Native American Performances –
Bollywood Wives and
Moving with Malaika they are so similar to the American versions that one of the stars also spoke of similar dialogues.
Actress Ananya Panday, daughter of Bhavana Panday, made a brief appearance in Season 1
The fairytale lives of Bollywood wives and said dialogue that sounded like it came straight out of Khloe Kardashian’s mouth.
“When I was young, I thought my name was ‘whore’ because my mom used to say that so much,” Ananya Panday said.
“My mom used to swear so much when we were little, I thought my name was whore,” Khloe Kardashian
he said, first.
History of Indian Reality TV
There have been more such experiments that the OTT audience seems to have. Netflix
Masaba Masaba– a dramatized and fictionalized account of the life of designer Masaba Gupta – is a hit with audiences. Season 1 of the show was in the top ten TV shows on Netflix in two countries, and season 2 was in the top ten in five countries.
The show, which stars the designer herself alongside her mother, actress Neena Gupta, has proven to be a “comfortable watch” for people, garnering praise and a fair share of nominations – though no awards.
In this genre (dramatized stories of real celebrities), Netflix also experimented with the film
AK vs AK, starring Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor. Although it did not gain the popularity of OTT hits like
Mirzapur or
Crime in Delhiit left its mark on critics and cinephiles alike.
These shows are another dimension of reality shows that have always been popular with Indians – both on TV and OTT. Of course, there are also shows like
Lock Up and
big boss which forces various celebrities into close encounters and allegedly uncomfortable situations.
lockup, hosted by actor Kangana Ranaut,
collected 15 million views in 48 hours. Shows that look like reality caught on camera have developed a following. It remains to be seen how many seasons will sustain viewer interest.
