Anurag Kashyap reacts to Narendra Modi’s remarks
Today (January 19) Gangs of Wasseypur the director hit the town to unveil the trailer of his upcoming film Almost Pyar with DJ Mohabbat. While launching the trailer, the director was asked if PM Modi’s caution towards party workers will help reduce anti-Bollywood sentiments and boycott Bollywood trends.
Responding to a question, Anurag Kashyap said, “It would have changed if he (PM Modi) had said that four years ago, I don’t think it would have changed now. It was about controlling one’s own people. I think it’s gotten out of hand now, it’s not like anyone is listening to anyone. When you empower prejudice with silence, when you empower hatred with silence, it has become so powerful in itself that it has become (their) power that the crowd has gone out of control.”
Meanwhile, a number of film bodies also welcomed Modi’s remark with open arms, where he warned the BJP leader against unnecessary remarks against films. He said: “No one should make unnecessary comments that overshadow the hard work we do.”
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is not one to shy away from hot topics. The director, who was quick to applaud people, also once opened up about his thoughts on the Bollywood boycott on social media. He told The Indian Express, “We are living in a very special time. Two years later, Sushant Singh Rajput is still trending everyday. These are strange times to boycott everything. It’s not just one side, it’s happening across the board.”
